The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) just wrapped up its annual Women In Construction (WIC) week. WIC Week was founded by the NAWIC to highlight the value of women in the construction industry, provide an occasion for NAWIC’s thousands of members to raise awareness of opportunities available to them, and emphasize their growing role. METALCON has featured several programs at in-person and virtual events in support of women in the metal construction industry. Most recently, METALCONLive! featured a panel of four female industry leaders, led by Heidi Ellsworth, founder of National Women in Roofing and CEO of RoofersCoffeeShop, who discussed “Can you Afford NOT to Have Diversity in your Workforce.” (WATCH IT ON DEMAND) We look forward to continuing the dialogue at METALCON 2021 and are thrilled to announce both Heidi and Lori Reynolds Morrow, CSI, CDT, with Sheffield Metals International, as members of METALCON’s new Advisory Council. To celebrate the week, check out ConstructionDive’s recent article “Construction Champions,” where they have highlighted 59 shining examples of how female-driven intuition, dedication and intelligence are shaping the industry.

THE METAL CONSTRUCTION ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES 2020 CHAIRMAN’S AWARD WINNERS
Pictured here is the winner in the Education-Secondary & Primary Category, which features Alpolic aluminum composite material (ACM).
The Metal Construction Association (MCA) announced its 2020 Chairman’s Awards projects at its recent Virtual Winter Meeting held in February. The judges selected winners based on overall appearance, the innovative use of metal in construction, and the significance of metal in achieving the project’s objectives. For consideration, an MCA member company must have made a significant contribution to the project’s construction. Christina Bazelmans remarked, “All of the winning projects are incredible examples of artistic expression and how to use metal to create beautiful and sustainable buildings. When you want to show what metal construction is capable of, these are the pinnacle.”
