Being brought to you by MCA and the MCM Alliance, learn from a dynamic panel of experts about the importance of cladding safety in light of global fires. This webinar will show how Engineering Evaluations (EE) can be used as a viable path to evaluate wall assemblies to the requirements of the International Building Code. The baseline information required will be reviewed along with a “layer-by-layer” analysis used by a qualified fire professional to demonstrate how a specific wall assembly meets the intent of the code. Executive Director of the MCM Alliance at the Metal Construction Association (MCA), Tom Seitz, will lead the discussion along with industry experts Daniel Martin, Fire Protection Engineer with Jensen Hughes, Andy Williams, MCA’s Director of Codes and Standards, and Jeff Henry, co-founder and CEO with CEI Materials.
Join us next Wednesday, April 20 at 1:00 PM and earn 1 AIA LU.
IMPACT OF INFRASTRUCTURE BILL ON METAL CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY
The $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) was signed by President Biden on November 15, 2021, serving as probably the most important bill devoted to the construction industry since the Federal Highway Act of 1991. What’s in it? Editorial Director of Metal Construction News, Paul Deffenbaugh, takes a closer look, “The IIJA includes about $450 billion of new investment with the remainder going to reauthorization or extension of existing programs.” While a significant portion of these funds will go to segments of the industry where metal building materials have little impact, such as roads and bridges, water infrastructure and broadband, expect a trickle down effect. As investment flows to those projects, AEC companies will begin investing in offices, warehouses, manufacturing facilities and other buildings that will increase demands for both metal building systems and metal building components. Deffenbaugh identifies areas of the bill that will bear directly on the metal construction industry, including but not limited to the “buy America requirements,” airport expansion, public transportation and energy efficiency and building infrastructure programs.
