Announcing its new Future Leaders at METALCON (FLMC) program, show director, Judy Geller, says, “The FLMC will enable us to help the next generation of metal construction industry professionals and their managers prepare to step into greater leadership roles, thereby leading the way for the future of the industry.” The program is designed for rising stars, up-and-comers, management trainees, apprentices and others, roughly ages 40 and under, who are ready to take their career to the next level. A virtual kick-off was held last month when METALCON 2022 keynote speaker, Dr. Melissa Furman, presented a special edition of METALCONLive! on “Personal Branding: An Important Skill for Professional Success.” Watch the recording HERE and still receive AIA credit. The program will continue in person at METALCON with Dr. Furman’s keynote address, followed by an exclusive workshop for young professionals. A happy hour reception, sponsored by CIDAN, will follow giving young professionals the chance to network with industry leaders.

“The versatility of metal buildings is no longer a secret,” says METALCON’s exhibit sales manager Mark Swagerty. He adds, “More and more, architects and contractors are taking advantage of the benefits offered by metal buildings to grow the market.” In direct response to the increased demand seen at last year’s event for metal building systems and custom design services, a new dedicated pavilion, Metal Building Marketplace, will make its debut at METALCON 2022 in Indianapolis this October. The pavilion will create a convenient hub for architects, contractors, and specifiers to discover the benefits of metal building systems and book orders on-site in real time. Get up close and personal with these systems and experience virtually the unlimited design and implementation possibilities. Look for top name exhibitors to be a part of the pavilion including ACI Building Systems, MBMA, Nucor Buildings Group, PanelClad, Quantum Impact Steel, R-Seal, and Ridgeline Safety Systems.

Above ground, the Indianapolis City Market is a perfect stop for artisan products and authentic ethnic foods, but “stranger things” lie underneath. Take a guided tour of an unusual site hidden from public view — the Catacombs, a Roman-looking expanse of brick arches. Both a “ruin and a redevelopment opportunity,” the Catacombs are the remains of a former thriving part of downtown called Tomlinson Hall, which burned in 1958. While you won’t find any “bones or crypts,” you’ll see scores of brick barrel-vaulted arches. Located nearby to the convention district, the Market serves as a gateway to Monument Circle and the crown jewel of the up-and-coming East Market cultural district. #LOVEINDY
