METALCON 2021 is returning LIVE and in-person this October and we want your help recognizing this year’s top products! Submit your nominations by July 1st in 15 categories including walls, roofs, structures, paint and coatings, windows and doors and more. To be eligible, a product must have been introduced to the market no sooner than January 1, 2019, and its manufacturer must be a 2021 METALCON exhibiting company (click HERE for a list). Following the application deadline, the public will be invited to vote electronically and winners will showcase their top products with special recognition at their booths. METALCON attendees can vote on-site for their top three choice products and the People’s Choice Top Three award winners will receive special recognition on the show floor.
METALCON will feature this “show within a show,” exclusively for architects, designers, specifiers and engineers eager to breathe new life into projects and solve a wide variety of architectural, structural, environmental and performance challenges through the use of metal. At the show, you’ll have three days access to the exhibit hall, the opportunity to earn up to a years’ worth of AIA LU’s and 20 CSI LU’s by attending exclusive education sessions, a private off-site tour and keynote at the Salvador Dali Museum, and a special architects-only guided tour of the exhibit hall. Shake up your perceptions of what’s possible in design by learning the latest architectural metal and metal construction trends, and business best practices specifically for architects.
Earlier this month, PSMJ Senior Principal David Burstein and Ken Simonson, chief economist with The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), presented comprehensive and encouraging data all pointing in the direction of a robust year ahead in metal construction, while still highlighting some challenges that lie ahead. Construction employment is at an all time high since 2006 in residential construction and year-to-date construction spend between January and March this year versus last year shows the highest gains in private residential with 25% in single-family homes. Construction input and bid price producer price indexes (PPIs) saw a huge increase compared to one year ago, especially for new residential construction and PSMJ’s Q1 Quarter Market Survey of architect and engineering firms showed the gain in Q1 2021 was the highest in the history of the survey. But concerns lie in significant price increases for construction materials including fuel, lumber, and steel. A new report from The American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Architecture Billings Index (ABI) logged its second positive mark since the beginning of the pandemic.
